Firefox 4 vs Firefox 5

Names like ‘Mozilla’ and ‘Firefox’ have been around quite a lot of time now for computer and IT enthusiasts. Being the second most widely used browser worldwide, catering to massive thirty-percent users online; Firefox has been out with major clicks and fixes rolling out better and evolved versions of its browser ‘Mozilla’. It has been just few months since the company unveiled Mozilla 4.0, and within a few weeks later it announced the entry of version 5.0 into the market. A lot of critics have a variety of views about this quick development and are in a dilemma as to whether people must take on the upgrade. Here are a few notable changes that would help one decide.

Few Added Features

If we look back into the launch of version 4.0 few months back, we could spot out the addition of the whole new range of features that were provided as an addition in the new release. When we talk of Firefox 5.0, the total added features in the version are comparatively fewer than its predecessor.

Enhanced Security

Firefox in its new version is said to be more secure and is inbuilt with a host of user security feature to protect one’s online activity; for instance the ‘Do Not Track’ feature and the ‘Channel Switch’ technology are enhanced and easily reachable in this release.
Firefox 5 has got tuned up in the HTTP secure connection time out logic which is perceived to be much better than Firefox 4, and hence more secure.

More Stability

As with any other software, this new release also aims to provide a more stable user experience; with least possible crashes and bug fixes. Firefox 5.0 is estimated to provide better JavaScript, Canvas and Networking performance compared to its previous releases.

Other Features

Along with the above mentioned additions, version 5.0 also showcases improved spell checking, better performance on Linux platform and better support to standards online like HTML5 and CSS3.
The new release although doesn’t have much to boast about when it comes to the basic flesh and design. Firefox 5.0 looks similar to its predecessor without any major hits and fixes to its aesthetics and design. Also, it is more or less clear that its additional features to help users are also relatively less. But in order to decide whether to upgrade to this new release, one must consider getting a view of the final word in the lines below.
Firefox 4.0 vs 5.0

Final Word

Talking of the decision to get onto version 5.0 is one of the hot debates about the product; after all versions 4.0 and 5.0 were released just months apart. Although Firefox 5.0 has a very few aesthetic or application improvements; but talking in terms of security and stability, version 5.0 is a class apart from its predecessor. Moreover the major research and development has been put into the areas of stability, security and usability. Critics writing on this may come up with host of different views but one thing that would be hard hitting is its improved security features and the better stability of the entire system. Firefox holds a large share of users after Internet Explorer and with the additional stability and secure browsing over its previous releases, it expects to gain a leap ahead. Technology changes each day, and with this the need for security in the technical sense becomes more and more crucial; that is basically what the release tries to address. And it is worth upgrading considering the major works done on the three main areas of Security, Stability and Usability..!
